Part-Time Police Patrolman

Duties and Responsibilities

Part-time Police Patrolman responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Patrol the township and monitor activities to protect people/property
  • Observe and respond to calls for situations or emergencies
  • Follow rules, guidelines, and protocols
  • Issue traffic/non-traffic citations
  • Prepare written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities
Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for appointment to a Part-time Police Patrolman position on the Harmar Township police force shall be: High school or graduate equivalency certificate; twenty-one (21) years of age; currently Act 120 certified, or have successfully completed Act 120 Training with the State Exam successfully completed by date of conditional hire, and possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Appointments to Part-time Police Patrolman shall be contingent upon the appointee successfully passing a medical examination prior to starting employment with the Township. The cost of said medical examination shall be paid by the applicant. The applicant will be reimbursed for medical exam and psychological exam, if needed, after one year of employment.  The appointment may be rescinded after said examination if the appointee is not able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without significant risk of injury to the appointee of others.

Salary

The hourly rate is established by the Police Department’s collective bargaining agreement with annual increases of $.50 starting each year on January 1st. The hourly rate starts at $19.00 hour.
